BOE approves policy making it easier to hire substitute teachers – The Daily Jeffersonian

The Cambridge City School District Board of Education recently met to approve annual appropriations and the Amended Certificate of Resources which are due to the Guernsey County Auditor’s Office.
The board approved the treasurer’s recommendation setting the annual appropriations of $35,800, 213.07 at the fund level and the Amended Certificate of Resources of $50,277,680.43 for fiscal year 2023. This is a process that is completed at the start of each fiscal year and is often amended throughout the year.
While in session, the board also approved a resolution to allow the district to hire substitute teachers that do not hold a post-secondary degree during the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 school years provided they meet specific requirements.
“Cambridge, like most school districts, is struggling to find enough substitute teachers,” Superintendent Dan Coffman said. “The State of Ohio has provided some relief from previous standards that gives school districts the ability to hire additional substitutes. In order for us to take advantage of this opportunity, we needed to pass this resolution that ensures we continue to hire substitute teachers that meet specific requirements.”
The board approved an overnight trip for Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) students to attend the fall leadership training at the Heartland Retreat and Conference Center in Marengo, Ohio, October 10-11, 2022.
The board also approved the hiring of Laura J. Perkins as a fiscal assistant in the treasurer’s office.
The next board meeting will be at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 13 at the Garfield Administrative Center.
